in light of my last post i want to talk about beauty, that slippery, slinky seductress. what i just did was called alliteration, and it is used to provide polish for prose. it makes things sound seductive and sing-songy so that you just sort of go along with whatever is said, sometimes. herein is the ultimate paradox: beauty. attractiveness in itself is almost neutral; it is the natural state of things, both light and dark being beautiful. the problem lies in a psychological heuristic we have where we now associate beauty with "goodness" or "correctness". however, beauty paints the faces of angels and demons alike. so take care to look beneath the notion that beauty = truth. just because a song sounds good or an add looks nice does not mean that it has merit of any kind. the internet is a treasure trove of "beauty" but much of it just makes us less satisfied with what is "real". the real beauty is
this world,
this earth,
this sky and these humans all around us. if you feel starved for beauty, close your laptop! go look at a beautiful person, animal, or plant. better yet, go have beautiful sex or make beautiful art. but never, ever compare yourself to some light world on a screen someone else made far, far away and programmed a long, long time ago.
